Growth Management & Smart Growth Initiatives
PDI has been at the forefront of the Smart Growth movement. We were instrumental in the Maine State Planning Office's seminal work, The Costs of Sprawl, and have been involved in numerous smart growth studies. We prepared a Community Visioning Handbook for the Maine State Planning Office, and we managed a two-year program for the New Hampshire Office of State Planning on developing a guidebook on smart growth for New Hampshire communities. We conducted a study of the financial disincentives for developers to undertake smart growth projects for the University of Southern Maine and recommended actions to increase private investment in smart growth. Our President Mark Eyerman is a member of Maine's smart growth faculty.
